It’s the 21st century and modern times mean modern equipment!
If you’ve been paying any attention at all, you will have noticed that cathode ray tube monitors for computer screens are being phased out. If you don’t know what that means, cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors were those boxy computer monitors that took up almost half your desk space.
Thankfully, those relics of the past are now being regulated to dumps and museums, and the future is securely in flat-screen technology.
We have moved on to the smaller, lighter, thinner screens like LCD, plasma, and now LED. When these first came out they cost an arm and a leg and your first-born child. Now, however, anyone can buy one at a very reasonable price. Making the switch to a flat-screen now will not only be kind to your pocket, it comes with several additional benefits.
Here are four reasons why you should consider the switch to a flat-screen LED computer monitor.
1. Size does matter
It’s the most obvious thing people notice when comparing CRT and flat-screen LED monitors. Predictably, LED monitors take up far less room that their boxy counterparts, freeing up space on your desk for coffee cups and half-finished crosswords. LED flat-screens weigh a lot less, too, so you won’t put your back out lifting it out of the box.
2. Get the whole picture
When you buy a monitor you want to be able to utilise every inch of the screen. CRT monitors distort images because the screens are slightly rounded, whereas LED monitors are truly flat, giving you extra viewing area.
3. Save dollars!
Saving money is at the top of everyone’s list, but you’re not going to do that if you still own a CRT monitor. CRTs have a shorter lifespan and require 60% more power to run than flat-panels. Sure you may grab a CRT on the cheap, but in the long run it’s going to cost you when you have to replace it more often. And check out that electricity bill. It’s not going any lower with a CRT in the picture.
4. Save the whales!
Ok not really, but LED flat-screens are definitely more environmentally-friendly than CRTs. Already we’ve noted that flat-screens use less power than CRTs, are smaller, have a longer life-span, and in this case, the LED monitor contains no toxic Mercury, which makes it easier to recycle. CRT monitors, on the other hand, often contain tubes made of Lead glass, and as we all know, Lead is a toxic substance that usually ends up in the landfill when these monitors are dumped.
For those watching their wallet-waistline an LED monitor is an investment to make as soon as possible. Advanced Computers has the AOC E2260 21.5-inch LED monitor on sale for $179.99 (RRP $249), at our deals website, Techbuys.
