The rumours are pretty solid about the release date of the Apple iPhone 5 being September 12, however All Things D is reporting that the iPad Mini is going to hit the stores a bit later than thought.
Previously, the unconfirmed rumour was that both devices would be announced on September 12, but the rationale behind the date change is that most Apple will want to wait for the iPhone 5 frenzy to get well underway before dishing out any more.
This certainly makes sense: why dilute the excitement of the big reveal for the iPhone 5 by showcasing another device alongside it?
Daring Fireball’s John Gruber says that this would prove detrimental to Apple.
“I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time,” Gruber wrote. “Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? … The more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention — and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.”
Fans must take note that none of these dates have been confirmed by Apple, and most information is supplied by unconfirmed “sources” from the inside. However, such speculation and conjecture has been close to the mark in the past, (one is tempted to think Apple deliberately leaks secrets as a clever marketing ploy), so keep those fingers crossed!
